Harbinger of Doom and Awesome...ness

So as we begin our descent into the midst of January (aka, it's almost mid-January! Which means it's practically the end of January! Which might as well be February!!!) I begin to enter the doom and gloom of my dislike of winter. And living in the North Country doesn't do much to help. Since winter's last gasp is usually mid-May or so.

Kill me.

There are few things that get me through this rough time in my life. First is my undying love and devotion to the sport of lacrosse. Have you been following long? Not sure what I'm talking about when I mention this? Don't worry. You'll catch up fast. Practices start soon (in fact I believe Stevenson starts in 8 days...I just happen to casually know that.) and before you know it, the season will be upon us. I've stepped up my game this year and will traveling in about an hour's radius from my home base here. This increases my viewing opportunities exponentially, both in number of games and number of conferences watched. There may or may not be a calendar involved...and I may or may not have volunteered to work two Saturdays in January for a weekend off in March/April. Thank goodness our February event falls in, well, February. No lax games yet (up here). Will probably try and get my volunteer work Saturday in in February as well.

The other thing that hauls my ass through the dismal days would be dreaming about summer, and specifically Alder Creek. For all my bitching and moaning about being up here, I do have to admit that I am also blessed, as it puts me only 2 hours away from my childhood-onward vacation spot, and if there isn't something pressing down here (or rain), every weekend this past summer found me there, soaking up sun, reading and listening to music. It's an incredibly special place and I am beyond blessed to have the access that I do. My dad, for example, would kill for this proximity. For pete's sake, the man is known to drive five hours on a Friday night (After work!) to spend the weekend up there.

He's also known to travel that far for lacrosse games.

Apple, tree.

So I know that as I am muddling through the depths of winter (with my nostrils sticking together every time I breathe in), on the other side, there is greatness.

In the form of amazing flow.
and sunshine.
