So a couple of days ago, I got a friend request from a girl who attends my old high school. We only had one mutual friend-a girl I graduated with (GIGW). She friended me on GIGW's birthday, so I figured she found me through her. I could not for the life of me, however, figure out who she was!
I didn't deny her, but I let it sit for a few days. I wasn't sure who she was, but I figured there had to be some reason or another as to why she was friending me.
Then, this evening, I was in my kitchen and glanced at the fridge for whatever reason, and I saw one of my magnets. It's painted like a rubber ducky, and I was given to me as a graduation gift from my little sister.
Quick digression to explain (though you guys are smart, you probably see right where this is going): I went to an all-girls high school, with a middle school that starts in 5th grade that feeds directly into the high school, and is even in the same building-middle school classrooms are on the first floor, high school on the second. Seniors are matched with 5th graders (or at least they were-don't know if they still do this) as big sister/little sister pairs. Two of us were paired with our little sister-there were 60-some of us and only 30-some of them.
The girl who friended me was my little sister. GIGW was her "co-big sister" with me. I still have the magnet, with the little note she wrote me on it. It hit me that the girl who friended me was my little sister.
I love that I still have the magnet, and that something like this has traveled with me. I cannot believe my little sister is going to be a senior this year. It's truly amazing how much time has passed and how I don't feel it has been much time at all. Six years out of high school, two years out of college. Frickin insanity.

I like the new script!
ReplyDeleteThat happens to me all the time. Especially when people don't have pictures of their faces.
Facebook can be so much fun sometimes!! I'll bet it would mean the world to her to know that you still have that magnet :) It's amazing how much of an impression you can make on someone, even if you can barely remember them. I love the little sister idea!!
