I Didn't See You There

I promise this time I have an excuse for my over-week-long disappearance! I've been on the road since Tuesday and had my big ol' VA weekend this past weekend, culminating in a 9 hour drive on all highway yesterday that took two venti java chip fraps, two cherry cokes, a chicken caesar wrap and a chicken sandwich from BK to get through. Gross. Yet so satisfying.

(midnight at my fraternity of choice. I had a much better video recorded on my camera. But I cannot make it work).

Returning to VA and to college had an interesting affect. CWF and I arrived Friday afternoon and had some mini reunions on the back quad pretty much right away. Headed up to the ASA house, a sociology reception, and dinner at the chinese buffet with a good friend. Quick change, pre-gaming at a sister's house (OH my gosh. Pre-gaming. So college) then we headed over to the bar for the big Friday night boozefest, for lack of a better term.

I am a huge floater. I arrive with people, but don't sit down. I grab a drink, cruise the bar, get another, chat for a little, then make another loop. I have always been like this since I hit the bar scene. At least, at this bar. This is probably my favorite night of the weekend, because everyone is there. All the fraternities, all the sororities, all the other people I want to see.

Friday night I didn't quite make it back to the hotel room, due to the need for a taxi and the lack of taxis in town. Instead I stayed at a friend's house where I learned that I give excellent head rubs. They may cause young gentlemen to make noises like a "rare, wounded animal." I literally laughed and said that. I would like to add a disclaimer to this: this was a very innocent incident. Nothing untoward. Scouts honor.

Saturday was lunch with my amazing ASA fambam, partying with one of my favorite group of boys, then dinner and a return.

That return? Horrible joke.

Back in college, Saturday of Alumni weekend was highlighted by a massive party hosted by the two fraternities on our satellite campus. Hundreds of people flocking around, running into people you weren't expecting to see, music blasting from the buildings, and drinking outside. This no longer happens. Instead, there are fences, and guest lists, and angry people. No more fun. I lasted until just after midnight and got a ride home from one of the DDs. Not because I was drunk. Because I left my car at the hotel. In anticipation. Boo.

Something I found kind of amusing about myself was how quickly I slipped back into a more "southern" vocabulary. "Honey" popped out of my mouth more times this weekend than it has in the past year. I called a coworker honey once. He was weirded out. I called everyone and their brother honey this past weekend. Nobody even blinked. Y'all has returned with a vengeance. I spoke with a visiting family at work back home in NY today and didn't even notice, but they noticed. And they called me out on it. I guess 4 years will do that to you.

Overall it was fun. Nothing mindblowing, but so great to see so many people again and eat some of that FOOD! Yikes, so much good food.

  1. I "y'all" on a regular basis and find it quite enjoyable. I refuse to make apologies for it when all my coworkers mock me. After all, they are apparently incapable of pronouncing the letter 'r'
