Here We Go, Roooonoke, Here We Go.

Wednesday saw the Maroons beating Stevenson University's Mustangs in a thrilling lacrosse game. Tied 12-12, Roanoke scored with 14 seconds left on the clock. In the ensuing face-off, Stevenson got the ball, shot went wide with 6 seconds left, they got it again and shot-the ball hit the post and bounced away as the clock ran down to 0:00. Y'all, I stayed in my office to watch this game because I didn't want to miss a second of the streaming broadcast, but nail biters are such a double-edged sword. On the one hand, who doesn't love a good game?! But on the other...it's so hard to be confident! Games where your teams runs away with it from the get go are boring, but at least you can be confident of the outcome.

Later Wednesday evening, Salisbury University beat Dickinson, which means this Sunday the Maroons are headed down to Salisbury for the semifinals of the DIII tournament. This is definitely a hump we need to get over-Salisbury has been the bane of our existence, and the last time we made the semis the road ran through Salisbury and it was a world of a heartbreaker.

So it's another match to the death to make it to the championship game over Memorial Day Weekend at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. If (when) Roanoke makes it, I am thinking I might have to hightail it down for Sunday's game. Maybe.

  1. Of course Salisbury won! They have always been so good! They actually recruited my brother, he loves their coach.
