Argh! Who am I? Where have I gone? Lets just say being able to get some sleep has really been wonderful for me.
Stories, stories. My my my.
So right. Sunday. Mumsy and I drove over to town to begin the search for my new abode. The first place we stopped was my arrangement. We pulled up to the house and before even turning the car off the idea was NIXED. yikes. So instead we went and got some coffee and looked at books and antiques until it was time to meet the realtor mother had procured. Well, adventure, to say the least. The first apartment (which she took us on three different roads until she found the right one-and I pointed out the right road) was tiny. Literally, the ceiling was about half a foot from my head. The floors were sloping (in a "I'm going to need bricks to keep items from sliding" kind of way) and there was not even a full sized stove. The only thing I liked was the staircase up to it, and when I told my mom this, she told me that she pictured me (d.r.u.n.k) falling down them. Thanks mommy.
The second place she found easily (only because we had driven by it in our search for the first place) was in a nicer building (by building I mean house that was divided into apartments) but over a bridge and across the way from my job. Not exactly walking distance. Did the guy who owns the apartments show up? No. Did my mom and I discuss with the realtor's daughter (who had a possibly sprained ankle and her leg in a full cast) about whether she was going to hell and her friend drama and why her mother wouldn't let her hang out at the boys and girls club after school by herself at age 11? yes. Did we possibly hear someone wailing and another someone coughing like they were losing a lung? Most definitely! Needless to say, as our woman went out to her car to call the dude (after standing around for fifteen minutes) we decided the safest bet was to hightail it OUT. Later to find out, said dude did not even recall that he was supposed to meet us. Nice.
The final place we went was only three minutes from my job and in one of the two apartment complexes in the town. It's a ground floor one-bedroom apartment with a patio. Its nice and clean, a little small, but pretty much the best one-bedroom thing I was going to find on such short notice. We turned in my application on Monday, and I heard back yesterday-they are going to hold the apartment for me until I can get back up to sign the lease and make my payments.
That trip was hilarious, disappointing, thrilling, and exhausting all in one. I am very lucky to have found such a nice place in such a short amount of time, and blessed that the trip worked out so well. I leave you with a few excerpts from the list my mom and I made while trying to cheer me up a little:
"K-going to Hell"
"Railroad track-No shortcut-purses and dresses found!"
"Too many layers of paint on the Wick Wall"
"Corner of Chestnut and Main=Riff Raff"
"Walking Distance=3 miles"
"Anything 'S' thinks is an apartment is a hotel or an office building" (S being my mom, haha. She thought both a Clarion and a Hampton Inn were apartment buildings. Love her.)
