Purse Problem

As someone who is trying really very hard to make it into this big bad rat race of a job market of today, I need to look the part, especially in an interview. First impressions count (phone interviews aside, we're talking in person here), and sometimes I wonder about my ability to make a first impression. I think I am friendly, outgoing, and positive (not crazy so), which are big pluses in the field I want to go into. I have been told by the people doing the hiring (as they call to offer their condolences, but they can't offer me the position) that they really think I would be good in the positions I am applying for. All good things.

So maybe something is wrong in my appearance? Well I know I am not exactly a skinny minnie or anything, but overall, I don't think I am horribly unappealing looking. And we're working on it! Promise! I always wear a suit to my interviews, it matches, I have a nice button down on underneath, all very modern yet modest. I USED to have a smart pair of black pointy-toe low heels until Bisby attacked them. I am clean, well put together, etc etc. But there is one thing that I officially have decided is holding me back from appearing to be a blossoming member of society and not a girl trying to be a woman-my PURSE (as if the title didn't give this away immediately, ha).
Don't get me wrong, I love my purse. It was a (semi) impulse buy from a store down at school called She's International during the summer before my senior year at school. Purchased at a time when I didn't exactly have the money to be buying such things, it took me a while to pay off my summer rent to the kid I was subleasing from. oops.

This baby is not a grown up purse. This is more like a going out, pull it out when the time is right kind of purse, but its what I rock, daily. I used to be a Vera Bradley Handbag girl (fell in love when I went to visit my then soon-to-be college) but I have moved on. To this. And now it is time to move on. To something else. But what?

I want something professional (like I could carry my laptop or files in it) but still purse-y looking. I'm not down for rocking the briefcase. I think my other problem is I am not really a person who has multiple everyday purses and switches out. I'd probably stick with black. (Gosh, I am not very cool, am I?) Any suggestions? and probably not the peekaboo bag Susan in the South mentioned. Eek, can you imagine the spillage?

And while we're at it, I should probably reinvest in those black pointy toe heels.

  1. Your purse is cute, but you're right it's not for the professional world. I usually carry a black leather Coach tote for a purse. It fits everything. It's also very professional. I saw a bunch of nice black leather purses at TJ Maxx yesterday.

Good luck with the job search.

  2. HAHA! The peekaboo bag is ridiculous! I carry the Kate Spade Quinn and get so many compliments on it, it is my first real grownup purse! I've seen it at outlets for as low as $140 on a good sale day but online it goes for $400. HA My boyfriend got it for our anniversary and I dropped some major hints when the big sales online would pop up! LOL
