Sing...Sing A Song

Please allow the inner choir/a cappella dork in my to come out for a little while (not that it doesn't make appearances all the time anyway)

I am in LOVE with FOX's new show this year, Glee. It's so cute and funny (it has Jane Lynch...enough said), but I could probably care less if it was the worst show on television because of one thing...

THE MUSIC!

So in the first episode alone, you get snippets of Respect by Aretha Franklin, Mr. Cellophane from Chicago, I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry, On My Own from Les Mis, and Sit Down You're Rockin the Boat from Guys and Dolls, a couple others thrown in. All totally awesome. BUT THEN! you get Rehab by Amy Winehouse and Don't Stop Believin' by Journey?! And these are done by show choirs and with a cappella like backgrounds (not truly a cappella because they are accompanied by instruments). OH my gosh. It's like heaven in an hour long block.

One of the things that I have really liked so far is that the music isn't out of place. Feelings and dialogue aren't set to a melody, like in High School Musical (which has been the big comparison), but instead, work to enhance the overall product that is the script and the writing. Not only that, but this isn't exactly big names, no voice. The actors can really belt it out, two of them are broadway stars. And like I said, its a cute and funny show. the plot lines that have started to form are really intriguing and though some things seem to have happened out of the blue (character Finn's big talk about being a Loser, for one), I am excited to see the character development of some of the characters that seem to be in the background in the pilot.

So yeah. Two thumbs up. Wednesday nights at 9 on FOX, I highly suggest it. I am linking to the Hulu full episode of the pilot right here.
